Club Patron John Mills John Mills was the State Member of Parliament for Wallsend 1988 – 2007. He retired at the 2007 State election. John’s first association with Wallsend Swans came when the Wallsend Seniors AFL Team won the Black Diamond Cup in 1988/89. This was the first time Wallsend had won the Cup since 1888, and there was a big celebration in town of the first win for 100 years. John displayed the Cup at State Parliament in Sydney later in 1989, and was Patron of the Wallsend Swans AFL Club for several subsequent years. “I am proud to accept the position of Patron of Wallsend District Swans Junior Australian Rules Football Club this year because of the strong local AFL history, and even more so because of the progressive sporting qualities and ideals promoted among the young players in the Club”, says John. “The Club office-bearers, parents, sponsors, volunteers and supporters make a big effort to keep this great team game affordable for families. “I wish you all enjoyment and fun in both training and playing, and when it comes, the happiness of success.” | | |
